Daylight Savings Time compatibility for

ACT!, TeleMagic, SalesLogix and SageCRM systems

In 2007 DST will start at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March (three weeks earlier) and will end 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November (one week later).  This DST change affects Canada, Mexico and all of the United States except Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

ACT! Users:

ACT! users living in these areas will need to update their systems.  Microsoft provides a DST update to make changes to the operating system.  Microsoft started to deliver the DST update as part of the February Security Patch.  ACT! users will also need to update their activities after installing the Microsoft update.

After you install the Microsoft DST update all previously scheduled ACT! activities that occur during the DST change periods (3/11 to 4/1 and 10/28 to 11/4) will be incorrectly displayed as occurring one hour later.  This is true for both recurring and single-instance appointments, to-dos and events.  These activities must be updated using an ACT! DST Utility so that they will be displayed correctly in ACT!.

The ACT! DST Utility should be run after the Microsoft DST updates are installed.  This will make all necessary modifications to affected activities and place them into the correct time.  This utility must be applied to all ACT! databases on your machine, and to all synchronization user machines.

Important Note:  Do not run the ACT! DST Utility if you synchronize ACT! with a handheld device using ACT! for Palm OS, ACT Link for Palm OS, or ACT! Link for Pocket PC.  Sage Software is currently working on a Daylight Saving Time hotfix for synchronization with these devices.  Handheld users who wish to be notified as soon as the handheld DST hotfix is available, please click here to receive a one-time notification, or check www.act.com/daylightsavingtime for updates.

Sage TeleMagic Users:

TeleMagic calendar/activities and synchronization functions are programmed to work off of the installed system’s internal clock.  Beyond the Microsoft recommendations, there is nothing further that needs to be installed.  To see the Microsoft issues and recommendations, please click here.

SageCRM Users:

SageCRM has been tested to function properly with the Microsoft tools and updates in relation to DST.  Beyond the Microsoft recommendations, there is nothing further that needs to be installed.  To see the Microsoft issues and recommendations, please click here.

Sage SalesLogix Users:

Sage Software has identified an issue with Sage SalesLogix when any of the following Microsoft patches are deployed on systems containing Sage SalesLogix executables:

  • KB928388 (2007 Time Zone update)
  • KB931836 (2007 Time Zone update which replaces KB928388)
  • KB913670 (Australian) update

The Microsoft updates change registry settings to allow the computer clock to adjust to the correct date in 2007 for revised Daylight Savings Time laws.  There are 14 registry entries in the Microsoft updates that cause Sage SalesLogix to fail.

Impact of DST and Microsoft Office update on SalesLogix:

If you do not apply the Sage SalesLogix Critical Updates, after applying the DST Update or installing Microsoft Office 2007 one or more of the following may occur:

  • You may be unable to log on to any Sage SalesLogix application
  • You may see the following error in Event Viewer: Faulting application "application name", "version number", faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2945, fault address 0x00012a5b
  • You may see incorrect data
  • You will receive error messages working with Office 2007 within Sage SalesLogix

Remedy:
Please note: Sage Software recommends that you contact your Certified Sage Business Partner for assistance with all Sage SalesLogix updates.  Sage SalesLogix Technical Support cannot assist with the installation, but can answer questions to assist in your preparation.  If your Support contract has expired, please contact Customer Care at 866-674-5588 or e-mail customercare.crm@sage.com.

Sage Software recommends that the appropriate Sage SalesLogix Service Pack is installed prior to deploying the Microsoft DST Update or Office 2007.

For Sage SalesLogix v6.2:
Service Pack 6 for Sage SalesLogix v6.2 is required to correct the issues caused by the Microsoft DST Update and Office 2007.  Download Service Pack 6

For Sage SalesLogix v7.0:
Service Pack 1 for Sage SalesLogix v7.0 is required to correct the issues caused by the Microsoft DST Update and Office 2007.  Download Service Pack 1

These service packs incorporate fixes to accommodate the Windows Operating System changes that occur when the latest Microsoft update is applied.

Other Information:
In the event that you unable to immediately deploy the Sage SalesLogix Service Packs, Sage Software has created workarounds which restore compatibility for Sage SalesLogix v6.2 and v7.0 after installing the Microsoft DST Update.  However, this is to be used as an emergency temporary solution only, and may cause time data inaccuracies in some regions of the world if left in place after March 11, 2007.  THERE IS NO WORKAROUND FOR OFFICE 2007 COMPATIBILITY.  Click here to download the Sage SalesLogix Workaround as a temporary measure.

If you installed a Sage SalesLogix workaround when running Sage SalesLogix on v6.2.x (excluding 6.2.6) or 7.0 after installing the Microsoft DST Update, the workaround must be removed when upgrading to v6.2.6 or 7.0.1.  Click here to remove the Sage SalesLogix Workaround and restore Microsoft Windows Time Zone Update Defaults.

Introduction of the patch from this KB article:
February 2007 cumulative time zone update from Microsoft Windows operating systems starting in the spring of 2007, daylight savings time (DST) start and end dates for the United States will transition to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005.  DST dates in the United States will start three weeks earlier, at 2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March.  DST will end one week later, at 2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November.

The update that this article describes changes the time zone data to account for the DST change for the United States.  This update also includes other DST-related changes, time zone-related changes, and settings-related changes.  Some of these changes will occur in 2007.  Some of these changes have occurred since the products that are listed in the "Applies To" section were originally released.  The update that this article describes is a cumulative update rollup that includes all the changes that were previously released in Microsoft Knowledge Base articles 928388 and 929120.  This update also describes some additional changes since the last cumulative update in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 928388.
