ALERT: AVG anti-virus
reporting false trojan in
TeleMagic
We
received a number of reports on
Friday, March 7, 2008 from users of
TeleMagic and AVG
Free antivirus that
they are receiving Trojan
infection reports in TM.EXE;
TMREP.EXE, SDIUTIL.EXE,
MergeMagic files and other
FoxPro files. It appears these
are "false positive" reports
that are generated by the AVG
Virus Definition files posted
early Friday. AVG
servers automatically send
updates on a phased basis to
prevent overloading their
servers, so some of your systems
may have this update and others
may not receive it until the
next day. AVG will move suspect
files to it's Virus Vault, in
many cases causing TeleMagic to
not function.
Over
the weekend, AVG issued a new
virus definition file,
(269.21.7/1323) which appears to
have corrected the false
positive reading on FoxPro
files. If you are using AVG
Free AntiVirus, we recommend you
check your systems to ensure
they have this latest AVG build
with the Monday, 3/10/08 date.
If your TeleMagic is not
functioning properly, check your
AVG Virus Vault and attempt to
restore the tm.exe files. In
some cases, AVG will have
deleted the files, thus
preventing restore. If this has
happened to you, you can restore
the files from a backup -- by
default, these would be the
files in the
...tm5\programs
folder. This should not have
affected your data files, just
the program files.
If
you need additional assistance,
please feel free to email or
call.
